đźšš Meet Butch Miller:

A Little About Me: 📸🚴‍♂️

An over-the-road truck driver for Shaffer Trucking, professional pedal pusher, and part-time web wizard! When I’m not busy hauling freight across the country, you can find me cycling gravel trails, hiking up mountains, or rock climbing—because who needs a gym when you have Mother Nature? 🏞️

Living in Augusta, Kansas, I balance my life between the open road and my favorite people: my amazing wife, Nancy, and our adventurous boy, Chris. Family time is sacred, especially when it involves cycling together and taking epic photos that make my Facebook followers question if I’m a truck driver or a travel influencer. 📸🚴‍♂️

Oh, and did I mention I’m also a web designer? Yup, I created this site, Cycling Around America, and run my own business, Miller Media and Web Design. So, while I’m out there exploring the great outdoors, I’m also crafting websites that’ll make your jaw drop. Check it out—you might just find the secret to my cycling routes! Probably Not 🖥️✨

So, if you ever see a truck parked next to a trailhead, it’s probably me—just a guy balancing tires and tires of fun! 🚲💨

Cycling Around America Blog Motivation

Why did I start this blog? Honestly, why not? I love snapping photos and jotting down random thoughts during my bike rides, hikes, and those aimless walks where I end up “accidentally” finding the best coffee shop in town. This little corner of the internet has become my creative playground—a space to share these adventures with all of you. I’ve always been into storytelling, whether it’s through a camera lens or by rambling on a keyboard, and this blog lets me do both. Pretty sweet, right?

Now, full transparency: while I’d love to turn this blog into a money-making machine someday (looking at you, affiliate links), none of the reviews you see here are sponsored. Every product I mention is something I’ve actually used, loved, and would recommend to my best friend—so you’re safe from any “this changed my life, you guys!” nonsense. Down the road, I’m also planning to sell my photography. The thought of someone hanging my photo of a starry night or a cityscape at sunset on their wall? That’s the dream. I’m especially obsessed with astrophotography, landscapes, and the gritty charm of cityscapes. There’s just something magical about capturing the world when it’s at its most dramatic and awe-inspiring.

Travel photography is also on my to-do list—because who doesn’t want an excuse to roam new places, eat questionable street food, and make friends with stray cats? I want to document it all, from breathtaking natural wonders to the quirks of hidden alleyways in a bustling city. The world is big, weird, and wonderful, and I want this blog to reflect that.

But beyond snapping photos and telling stories, this blog is also a way for me to slow down and actually notice the world. Life moves fast (too fast, if you ask me), and it’s easy to miss the small stuff—the way the wind whispers through the trees on a quiet trail or how a challenging bike ride can leave you feeling both exhausted and totally alive. Writing about these moments helps me savor them, and maybe it’ll encourage you to stop and soak them in too.

Right now, my focus is on creating great content and finding my tribe—folks who love adventure, photography, and the occasional “oops, I fell in the mud” moment outdoors. I don’t want this to just be a collection of pretty photos and stories. I want it to be a hangout spot for like-minded adventurers to share tips, swap stories, and maybe even inspire each other to try something new (like that terrifying suspension bridge I crossed last summer—10/10 recommend, would sweat again).

I’ll also be sprinkling in some practical tips—stuff like how to pick the best beginner gear, reduce your environmental impact on the trail, or not accidentally hike into a bear’s backyard (pro tip: make noise, lots of it). It’s all about enjoying nature responsibly while still having a blast.

Honestly, I think we all need a dose of nature therapy these days. When the Wi-Fi is glitching and life feels like one big email thread, stepping outside and soaking in some fresh air can work wonders. For me, nature is both my muse and my therapist—it never judges, it’s always free, and it doesn’t mind if I talk to myself. Whether it’s a quick walk in the park or a multi-day trek through a forest, there’s a piece of the outdoors waiting for everyone.

So, welcome to my little adventure diary! Here’s to sharing the highs, the lows, and the inevitable “I didn’t realize this trail was that steep” moments. My hope is that this blog inspires you to get out there, embrace the beauty around you, and maybe even find your own story to tell. Let’s explore, laugh, and maybe get a little muddy along the way. Deal?

New Walkabout Record Set

Well, I just crushed my personal best for a stroll—who knew aimlessly wandering could turn into such a fierce competition? At least I’m winning against my own sense of direction!
